The stage was set. An older martial art practitioner and a younger, apparent pupil of his came along with plenty of protective gear and padding and longknifish looking implements. I had brought both metal and metal coated with plastic knives.

A brief discussion ensued as to what was the end goal of this upcoming training session. We settled on the format of this class and ventured on the floor.

One and a half hour later and lots had happened- we were all happy to be in one piece and uninjured.

In terms of techniques and methods, this Long range knife fighting methods had many common traits with many sport martial arts, where you square and directly work with a single opponent at a time. Granted they are  fearsome with their knives, however, it appeared that in the case of multiple opponents or  should they find themselves without a blade or a stick, or on possibly on the ground, tides could turn fast.

A thoroughly enjoyable encounter- frank, honest and painful work.
